New Math Dictionary Sections: (7) Multiplying & Dividing Fractions
Upcoming Assessments: Basic Fractions Redo on Mon. 10/19/09, Multiplying/Dividing Fractions on Thurs. 10/22/09, & WWU Quiz on Fri. 10/23/09
The take-home Algebraic Concepts quiz assigned at the end of Week 5 was due on Monday. We continued reviewing fraction content from last year. A basic fractions quiz was given on Wednesday, on which many students struggled mainly because they showed little work, trying to do most of it in their heads. Students should be showing ALL work and practicing basic multiplication/division as those are essentials in the foundation for fraction work. The stronger a student is in the basics, the easier the newer fraction topics will be. This is especially true for fraction computation problems, as those will all be non-calculator on all assessments. We went over the first basic fractions quiz on Friday and those receiving a "Not Yet" grade will need to study over the weekend for the redo. We proceed to begin our work on the basics of multiplying and dividing with fractions, which will be continued next week in word problems.
