New Math Dictionary Sections: (13) U.S. Customary System
Upcoming Assessments: 6th WWU Quiz on Fri. 1/15/10
We started the new year by jumping straight into the U.S. Customary Measurement System. The unit includes converting from one unit to another, comparing measurements, and determining appropriate units of measure for a given situation. Students are beginning to memorize the conversion guide, which helps make converting from any given unit to another quicker and easier. Types of measurement being focused on include length (miles, yards, feet, and inches) and how it relates to area questions, volume (gallons, quarts, pints, cups, and fluid ounces), and weight (tons, pounds, and ounces). We will retouch the unit when we cover the metric system in two weeks by relating the two systems. The week was wrapped up with a quiz on the unit.
On another note, due to absences and unfinished work from before break, the adding/subtracting fractions quiz from the Friday, December 18 will now be turned into a classwork grade which will be added in next week once we have gone back over the quiz in advisory.
