Notes on Ratios, Rates, & Proportions

Ratios are the comparison of two numbers.

Rates are special ratios; they compare two numbers with different units. Unit rates are rates that have a denominator as one.

Proportions "compare" equivalent ratios. You can determine whether two ratios are truly equivalent by comparing their cross products. You can also use this method to algebraically find a missing term.
