Homework: June 9-13

For the week of June 9, 2014

With this being the last week of school, all work is winding down for the year.  Grades will most likely need to be sent before the last day, but I still plan on taking a few small grades, mostly to help students get a little last minute boost if they put forth the effort.  The work will predominately be completed in class, but it would be good for students to review a little bit once they get home.

Homework: June 2-6

For the week of June 2, 2014

Tomorrow students will receive the new packet on the Pythagorean Theorem.  These packets will be due this Friday, though I ask that students who plan to be out Friday to please try turning it in early if possible.  Otherwise, they'll need to be careful to remember over the weekend and to turn them in when they return Monday, June 6th.

Homework: May 27-30

We've got our SOL test this week (Block 1/2 May 28th, Block 7/8 May 29th, and 3/4 May 30th), so the only thing I'm asking students to do this week is study and prepare.  Review your materials from the SOL review folder and Math Dictionary, practice making your Smart Chart from memory, get plenty of rest the night before, and eat a good breakfast in the morning before heading to school.

Homework: May 19-23

For the week of May 19, 2014

We are in our final week of SOL review (our test is next week!), so students should continue working on their review packets.  This week's focus is on the most recently released Math 7 SOL test, which can also be practiced online.  Any work from our packets that isn't completed in class should be finished at home along with students taking time each evening to review the materials in their SOL review folders.  I've tried to help the students work on their self-pacing by telling them that for this packet, they should be finishing about 13 problems each day, so if they don't accomplish that in school, they should finish that amount at home each night.

Homework: May 12-16

For the week of May 12, 2014

We are still in "SOL mode" now, so students will continue working on their review packets.  This week's focus is on the third and final reporting category, Probability, Statistics, Patterns, Functions, and Algebra.  Any work from our packets that isn't completed in class should be finished at home along with students taking time each evening to review the materials in their SOL review folders.  I've tried to help the students work on their self-pacing by telling them that for this packet, they should be finishing about 6-7 pages each day, so if they don't accomplish that in school, they should finish that amount at home each night.

#4 SOL 7.9-7.16 Review Packet for the week of 5/12/14

Monday, May 05, 2014

Homework: May 5-9

For the week of May 5, 2014

We are completely in "SOL mode" now, so students will begin working on their review packets.  This week's focus is on the Measurement and Geometry categories, which is the second reporting category for the SOL test (i.e. how they separate the sections for data purposes).  Any work from our packets that isn't completed in class should be finished at home along with students taking time each evening to review the materials in their SOL review folders.

#3 SOL 7.5-7.8 Review Packet for the week of 5/5/14

Monday, April 28, 2014

Homework: Apr. 28-May 2

For the week of April 28, 2014

We are completely in "SOL mode" now, so students will begin working on their review packets.  This week's focus is on the Numbers & Number Sense and Computation & Estimation categories, which is the first reporting category for the SOL test (i.e. how they separate the sections for data purposes).  Any work from our packets that isn't completed in class should be finished at home along with students taking time each evening to review the materials in their SOL review folders.  We started setting up the folders today in class, so each student should now have at least the first quiz in their folders.

#2 SOL 7.1-7.4 Review Packet for the week of 4/28/14

Monday, April 21, 2014

Homework: Apr. 21-25

For the week of April 21, 2014

We have two assessments this week, our first mini-SOL review quiz as well as the county's SOL simulation test.  Because of this, no separate homework packet will be given.  Instead, students should study for the assessments and make sure their statistics classwork packet is completed (i.e. any work not finished in class should be finished independently).  We'll be 100% focused on SOL review starting next week since our last Math 7 topic will be wrapped up this week.

Homework: April 7-11

For the week of April 7, 2014

Students received the new packets on probability last week as they finished their tests.  These packets will be due this Friday, though I ask that students who plan to start Spring Break early and will be out Friday to please try turning it in early if possible.  Otherwise, they'll need to be careful to remember over the break and to turn them in when they return Monday, April 21st.

HW & CW for the week of 4/7/14

Weekly Class Summary: Mar. 31-Apr. 4

SOLs Covered:  SOL 7.8 & 8.8 Geometric Transformations; SOL 7.12 & 8.14,16 Relations & Functions
Math Dictionary Sections:  28 Transformations; 29 Relations & Functions
Upcoming Assessments:  Probability Quiz (Fri. 4/11/14)

This week was predominately filled up with testing, so I don't have too much to write about this time.  We did spend Monday in the computer lab, reviewing current and old materials by playing DimensionU.  By the end of the day, I was able to join in and play with the students; while I'm a little rusty, I did show them I've got some gaming skill by the second round (just had to rest the keys for my "leftiness" first).  On Tuesday, we started class by going over a few last minute details from the review packet before the students started the test on transformations, similar figures, relations, and functions; most students finished the test on Wednesday and used any extra time to wrap up odds and ends for the third term.  Ideally, I would leave it at the one test, but we are required to give the county's post-assessment, which shows student growth in each content area, by the end of the third term; with all the snow days, this was the only viable option for scheduling.  Therefore, Thursday and Friday were devoted to the test.  For those students who finished early, the new packets on probability (notes, homework, and classwork) were made available, which start off with review materials.  We'll start going over all of it together on Monday.

Homework: Mar. 31-Apr. 4

This week I'll be giving the kids a bit of a break since they'll likely be on testing overload.  We have both the test on transformations and functions as well as the county's post-assessment.  They do have the extra materials from last week as well as a study guide to look over and continue working on as part of their personal study time and SOL review.  I'd imagine they might also have bit to work on in other classes to wrap up the third term.

Homework: Mar. 24-28 (+Reminders!)

Students are reminded to turn in late/incomplete assignments as well as signed grade reports if they haven't already.  All term 3 assignments are due by Friday, March 28.  Any grades taken after this week will be counted towards the next term in order to give students a chance to make the work up or due corrections if necessary.  Students should work on the functions packet, which is due this Friday, March 28.

We'll be in the computer lab for math gaming review on Monday, March 31, so students should bring their headphones/earbuds for that day.  A test on transformations and functions is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1 and we also have to take the county's post-assessment this term, which is scheduled for April 3.  I'd prefer not to have back-to-back testing, but it sadly couldn't be helped.  Again, grades from the week of March 31st will go onto the last term.

Reminder:  I'm still not able to schedule a "regular" tutoring time (auntie driving duties have pilled up), but students can make arrangements with me to set up a time to come in early or stay a little after if the need extra help.

Homework: Mar. 17-21

Students are reminded to turn in late/incomplete assignments as well as signed grade reports if they haven't already.  Students should continue working on the transformations packet, which is due this Thursday, March 20.  A quiz on transformations is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, though it might be pushed back a day depending on how far we get with these winter weather delays.

Reminder:  I'm still not able to schedule a "regular" tutoring time (auntie driving duties have pilled up), but students can make arrangements with me to set up a time to come in early or stay a little after if the need extra help.

Monday, March 10, 2014

Homework: Mar. 10-14

This week students will be finishing a test on Monday and will be in the computer lab on Tuesday, so they will not receive their new math packets until Wednesday, which will not be due until next week (Wed. 3/19).  They should bring their headphones/earbuds for the lab day.  Students will be given a grade report to take home and get signed by a parent/guardian, returning the next day.

On a side note, I'm still not able to schedule a "regular" tutoring time (auntie driving duties have pilled up), but students can make arrangements with me to set up a time to come in early or stay a little after if the need extra help.

Homework: Mar. 3-7

For the week of March 3, 2014

This week students will wrap up their work on last week's classwork packet mostly on their own at this point and will thus NOT be given new homework.  We'll be reviewing surface area and volume in class and move onto working in groups on higher level word problems.  Students should study for the next test, which will cover quadrilaterals and volume/surface area.  It is currently scheduled for Mon. 3/10, barring any more of this interesting winter weather we've been having

While I might have to change plans again due to the weather, we're currently scheduled to be in the computer lab on Tuesday (3/11) for a bit of gaming review, so students are reminded they can bring their headphones/earbuds to class on that day.

Homework: Feb. 24-28

For the week of February 24, 2014

This week students have been given two new packets of work on solids (review) and volume and surface area (mix of review and new).  The thinner packet (6 pages) is considered the homework and the thicker packet (16 pages) is considered the classwork.

If students did not complete and/or turn in the previous packets and/or take-home test, they should do so as soon as possible.  They are already marked as missing (M=0F) if they haven't been turned into me.

Students should study and prepare for the next quiz, which will be review materials and take place Friday (2/28).  A test is on the horizon as well (quadrilaterals and volume/surface area scheduled for Fri. 3/7).

We'll be in the computer lab on Monday (3/3) for a bit of gaming review, so students are reminded they can bring their headphones/earbuds to class on that day.

CW & HW for the week of 2/24/14

Monday, February 17, 2014

Homework: Feb. 17-21

For the week of February 17, 2014

This week students have been given a new packet of work on quadrilaterals.  Parts will be completed in class, but for most of this packet, students will be expected to complete the work on their own.  The first page ("Camp Quadrilateral") goes with an in-class slideshow created by another county teacher.  We'll view the presentation together in class and fill out that first page from the slideshow, but students can view it again here.

If students did not complete and/or turn in last week's packet and/or take-home test, they should do so as soon as possible.  It will be marked as missing (M=0F) until they are turned into me.  They've been given time in class over the last two weeks as well as today in class, but I cannot give anymore class time for it.

Students should study and prepare for the next quiz, which will be on quadrilaterals and take place next week (Mon. 2/24).

We'll be in the computer lab on Friday to input answers for the county's first semester benchmark test as well as a bit of gaming review, so students are reminded they can bring their headphones/earbuds to class on that day.

Homework: Feb. 10-14

For the week of February 10, 2014

This week we'll be continuing the packet from last week as both classwork and homework.  In addition to this, I will be giving the students a take-home test either on Tuesday, Feb. 11 or Wednesday, Feb. 12 depending on what the weather forecast is saying in the morning.  With the strong possibility of wintry weather having an affect on school this week, I'd like to forestall falling further behind by doing this.  I will not be posting the test electronically simply because I would like to continue using it in the future.  The linked file is the same packet as was posted last week.

Homework: Feb. 3-7

For the week of February 3, 2014

This week I'll be doing things a little differently.  With all the lost time, I'm a little paranoid about what the weather may have in store for us, so I've put together a packet for each student.  This packet will be used as both classwork and homework for the rest of this week and part of next week.  We'll work on the packet each day in class and students will be expected to work (or show effort where they've at least attempted) at least five problems each night.  This has the added benefit that students will be able to work a bit more at their own pace.  Some of the class time will be spent working individually, in small groups, and as a whole class, with me helping and working along with them in each situation.

The current weather forecast leads me to think we won't miss any time this week, so I expect we'll be able to complete a good portion of the packet this week.  I'm a little leery of what this weekend and next week's weather holds for us, so if we do miss more time, students will be have work they can do on any possible snow days.  I'll keep a sharp eye on the forecast each day and give everyone more detailed instructions if it looks like we could possibly miss any more days; otherwise the packet will be due by the end of next week before the test.

Please feel free to email if you have any questions!
