The week started with another quiz redo, this time on Multiplying/Dividing Fractions. Fraction work is always a trying subject for middle schoolers, so students are encouraged to continue studying and practicing what we have covered with fractions thus far to keep everything fresh, especially since they will continue to pop up the rest of this year. On Tuesday, we began working on the coordinate plane. In addition to learning the vocabulary for the unit and how to graph ordered pairs, we made several Cartesian cartoons, "grown up" connect-the-dots where you make the dots before you can connect them. Most students really enjoy making these, so I encourage them to ask if they would like to do more on their own. It is wonderful practice for graphing, something they will be doing often when the get into Algebra in 8th grade. The coordinate plane led into our work on coordinate geometry, perimeter and area of squares, rectangles, and triangles. It will carry over into next week.
