Weekly Class Summary: May 3-7

SOLs Covered: SOL 6.17 (MSMI.17) Solids
New Math Dictionary Sections: (29) Solids
Upcoming Assessments: "You Can Do It" SOL Review Quiz 5 on Fri. 5/14/10

The classification of solids was covered this week, which entails an analysis of the type of 2-D shapes used to form the 3-D solid and determining the number of faces, edges, and vertices the solids contain. Using a set of mystery nets, students discovered what a flattened, deconstructed solid would look like once it was refolded. Students will need to be able to visually determine a net's solid form for the SOL test. We practiced drawing nets for various solids to help them practice this task as well as helping them accurately find the number of faces, edges, and vertices for each. Again, we viewed the PowerPoint for this unit, which can again be viewed here on the blog or downloaded in WMV format on EdLine. The unit will be revisited after the SOL test when we cover volume and surface area, two Math 7 SOLs that are integrated into the MSMI curriculum but will not appear on the Math 6 SOL.

This week's review packet was Probability & Statistics. The quiz for this section was given on Friday and will be returned next week. Next week's review packet, the final in the series, will be Measurement & Geometry. All sections can be found with the following link: SOL Homework Review Packets. If time permits, answer keys for everything will be posted after the sections are covered and all students have finished the quizzes.
