Weekly Class Summary: June 7-11

SOLs Covered: SOL 6.11 & 7.8 (MSMI.13) Volume & Surface Area; SOL 7.5 (MSMI.11) Subtracting, Multiplying, & Dividing Integers
Upcoming Assessments: TBD

We began the week with volume and surface area for rectangular prisms and cylinders. Like many of our other units, we used color-coding to help students identify where to properly place the numbers into the formulas. Students are reminded to copy the whole formula onto their paper each time to avoid making mistakes. There was a short quiz on congruent/similar shapes and volume/surface area on Wednesday.

The rest of the week revolved around computation problems that have integers. Earlier in the year, we covered a basic introduction of integers as well as addition of integers. Students were asked to review those sections as they are needed to solve problems involving subtraction, multiplication and division: (02) Integers & (19) Integer Addition. For multiplication and division problems, students learned a poem will help them determine which sign to give the answer. On Friday, students were able to use their artistic side to help create pieces to a classroom number line that I will continue to use with my classes next year. Integers will continue into the beginning of next week.
