Math Dictionary Sections: (1) Estimation

As is routine, we began the week (and the year) by learning middle school and classroom rules and procedures. On the first day, students received an envelope of forms to take home and have their parents fill out. In addition to this, I sent home a class brochure with details and resources for my class and a contact information sheet to be filled out by parents/guardians. The forms both for the school and my class should have been returned by Friday. Students also took a diagnostic test to determine their strengths and weaknesses in fifth grade math.
After students finished their diagnostic, they began setting up their Math Dictionaries with the table of contents and first section, Estimation. The Math Dictionary will contain all the topics students need to routinely study throughout the year in order to be prepared for the Math 6 SOL test in the spring. Estimation will carry over into the beginning of next week.
