Upcoming Assessments: Test 3.2 on Trans. & Sim/Con (Fri. 3/1)
My allergies have been wrecking havoc on my head this week, so this will be another short-and-sweet class summary. After a long weekend, this week had us continuing our work on transformations, starting with the students following along as I modeled problems before they did their own, both individually and in small groups. From physically modeling the various transformations, students learned that appling various calculations (ex. adding integers to the x- and/or y-coordinates to perform a translation) could also give them the new coordinates for the transformed shape. The unit was wrapped up with a quiz today.
Thursday also saw us going over the last test. As I've told students, I wasn't entirely happy with the content of the test, so I changed the grade to a participation grade, worth a smaller number of points but still counted towards the test category. We went over each question, so the students can now use it as another study guide. Next week we'll be doing a bit more work on similar and congruent shapes, which was covered briefly when we worked on proportions and again with dilations. A test for the transformations and similar/congruent shapes will take place at the end of the week.
